In my practice, I work with people who are struggling with many kinds of problems, including:
- Relationship difficulties
- Questions about identity
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Problems with alcohol and drugs
- Academic and job performance issues
- Artistic blocks
- Life transitions
Though my main focus is young adulthood, I have worked with the full spectrum of age groups, from young children to WWII veterans, and with an exceptionally diverse range of people.
My approach aims to be warm and collaborative. I am trained primarily in psychodynamic (insight-oriented) psychotherapy, but I do not hesitate to engage in more specific problem-solving approaches (such as cognitive behavior therapy) when warranted. My goals for my patients are to help them better understand themselves and their relationships, to cope with difficult emotions and situations, and to live life with greater integrity. I believe that doing so requires from me careful and respectful listening and openness to feedback, as well as my own dedication to integrity.
My approach to substance abuse incorporates evidence-based motivational techniques and works on a harm-reduction model that attempts to help patients reach the specific goals that they have set for themselves.
